About
A small, independent editorial team based in Mumbai, committed to factual economic analysis over opinion and speed.
Finportalq is an economics news and analysis platform covering the Indian economy. We publish explainers and data-led reports on five core beats: macro-economy (GDP, inflation, current account), business conditions (PMI, earnings, credit), labour market (employment rates, wage trends), policy and regulation (monetary policy, fiscal policy, trade rules), and household budget (food prices, EMI burden, real wages). We are not a stock-market tips service, not a fund-marketing platform and not a wire service — we publish fewer pieces and spend more time on each one. Our typical reader is a policy researcher, a finance professional, a senior manager or an engaged citizen who wants to understand the mechanism behind an economic event rather than just its outcome. We are based at Nariman Point in Mumbai and have been publishing since 2019. Our revenue comes from advertising and branded research briefs; we do not charge readers for access.
The Finportalq editorial team consists of four journalists and one data analyst, all based in Mumbai. Every article begins with a primary source: a government statistical release, an RBI document, a Ministry of Finance statement or a parliamentary committee report. We read the document before we read anyone else's coverage of it. Analysis pieces go through a two-stage check: the reporter drafts against the source data, and a second editor verifies every cited figure against the original table. We flag model-based estimates separately from survey-based actuals, and we note when a methodology change affects comparability across years. We have covered 11 Union Budgets, 24 MPC decisions and four general election economic cycles since our founding. We do not publish every story — only the ones where we have something specific to add to the data record. There are real limits to what we cover: we do not publish daily market commentary, we do not report on individual company results unless they are statistically significant for a sector, and we do not accept sponsored editorial content. Economic conditions, government data revisions and regulatory changes are outside our control; we report what the data says at the time of publication and note subsequent revisions where material.
We read the official document before forming a view. Every statistic is traceable to a named release with a date and table reference.
When a number is a projection, an estimate or subject to revision, we say so in the article — not in a footnote most readers skip.
We let the data drive the story. If the numbers contradict a popular narrative, we report the numbers and explain the contradiction.
If a source body revises its data, we update the article, timestamp the correction and note what changed — no silent rewrites.
